The thought of quitting smoking can be a little daunting, especially if you’re a long-term smoker… but one of the most effective ways of ditching the cigs or cutting down significantly is to take up vaping as an alternative.
But if you’re new to ecigarettes, you may find it a bit of a tricky landscape to navigate at first – so here are five FAQs to help you get off on the right foot and find the best vape kit to suit your particular needs.
What is vaping?
Vaping is a smoking alternative where no tar or combustion is involved. Vape pens contain a battery device (which can be inbuilt or removable), a tank to store your eliquid and a coil to heat the eliquid up.
What is in the eliquid?
Eliquid ingredients include nicotine (although you can find nicotine-free options), glycerine, propylene glycol and flavourings. These ingredients are all heavily regulated in the UK. Companies are legally required to test both devices and liquids, notifying the relevant authorities of the results.
Is nicotine dangerous when used in vape pens?
The eliquids you’ll find in the UK are all below two per cent nicotine strength and it is not the nicotine in any case that is the harmful aspect of smoking cigarettes. Various medical bodies have found that long-term use of nicotine is not harmful to health.
Will vaping help me quit smoking?
Yes, vaping is now recognised by organisations such as Cancer Research UK as one effective way of helping people quit smoking for good. In fact, a recent study found that ecigs are nearly twice as effective for quitting smoking as other nicotine replacement treatments.
Is there an age limit for vaping?
Sales of vape products to people below the age of 18 is against the law in England, Scotland and Wales. Currently, there are no such restrictions in Northern Ireland, although this may be subject to change at a later date.
